Abstract
Ovaj rad bavi se analizom jedne od vodećih internetskih platforma za gledanje serija i filmova na zahtjev, Netflixa. Preko centralne točke, komodifikacije kulturne proizvodnje, povezat ću Netflixovu produkciju i distribuciju sadržaja s konceptom kulturne industrije Theodora Adorna i Maxa Horkheimera. Pomoću prikrivenog oglašavanja, individualnog pristupa pretplatnicima pomoću algoritamskih preporuka te inovacije binge watching-a, tvrtku pokreće profit te ona postaje još jedan dodatak kapitalizmu. Kroz perpetuirani ciklus stvaranja potrošačkih želja te pokušavanja zadovoljavanja istih, Netflix stvara nezasitnu publiku te samoodržavajuće tržište, pritom zadržavajući mase na podređenim pozicijama u društvu. Dokazat ću tezu kako i pod kojim uvjetima Netflix djeluje kao kulturna industrija u potrošačkom kapitalizmu.
Abstract (english)
This paper deals with the analysis of one of the leading online platforms for watching series and films on demand, Netflix. With the central point, commodification of cultural production, I will connect Netflix's production and content distribution with Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer's concept of the cultural industry. Through product placement, individualized approach to subscribers using algorithmic recommendations, and the innovation of binge watching, the company is driven by profit and becomes yet another appendage to capitalism. Through the perpetuated cycle of creating consumer desires and trying to satisfy them, Netflix creates an insatiable audience and a self-sustaining market, while keeping the masses in subordinate positions in society. I will prove the thesis how and under what conditions Netflix works as a cultural industry in consumer capitalism.
