The climate change phenomenon and human impact on climate change has preoccupied world scientists in various fields of science for a long time. In recent years, the phenomenon has attracted increasing attention from the general public; Croatia is no exception because many of us (especially young people) recognize the need to learn about climate issues and act against harmful human activities. In order for the younger generations, as well as the rest of the population, to realize the need to deal with climate change as a matter of urgency, educators, teachers, pedagogues and higher education staff need to take responsibility for climate change education. This research sought to test knowledge and attitudes about climate change among students of the University of Rijeka and the readiness to teach about it among the future members of the education sector (students of the Faculty of Teacher Education and the teaching module). Research also sought to examine perceptions of the risks, effects and consequences of climate change, feelings of concern and fear, and interest, possible solutions and actions to preserve the climate. The research was conducted using an online survey questionnaire on a sample of 354 students from the University of Rijeka. The results showed that students at the University of Rijeka have a good general knowledge of climate change and positive attitudes about human problem-solving capabilities, but mixed attitudes about the perception of consequences and personal responsibility. Feelings of concern and fear of harmful consequences were noticed, but also interest in possible solutions and actions and a willingness to teach about climate change in the Croatian education system, which participants believe does not do enough to teach students about climate change.
