The 19th century seems to be a turning point in adult education because Tomas Pole first introduced this term in systematic use, while Alexander Kapp states the term andragogy in the German publication. At the beginning of the 20th century andragogy is introduced in the United States by Eduard C. Lindeman. This paper cited some famous andragogists who have greatly contributed to its development. First we talk about Alexander Kapp and his book "Plato's educational ideas" where andragogy is explained as the need for adult education. The next section talks about the work of Peter Jarvis and his view of the person in society. He attaches great importance to the experience and lifelong learning, such as Dewey. In addition to experience, Dewey attaches importance to democracy, saying that American democracy is the best form of government, which can be improved through a quality education. Furthermore, Eduard C. Lindeman, an educator who has worked in many areas with education, advocated for social education and believed that education is crucial for social change. He dismisses the formal curriculum and turns to practical work and moral education. The North American education was also influenced by Mary P. Follett because the community centers have become an important educational forms of adult education, thanks to her. Her aim was to develop civil and social responsibility in society. Last educator listed in this final work that contributed the most to the development of andragogy is Malcolm S. Knowles. He explained the difference between pedagogy and adult education, identified five assumptions about the characteristics of adult learners, promoted informal education and self-directed learning. The Yugoslav Adult Education is largely influenced by Dušan Savićević since he established a system of andragogical disciplines. In addition, due to his meeting with Knowles, the rest of North America was familiar with the concept of andragogy.
