Waldorf pedagogy is an alternative pedagogy based on a holistic approach to education and it has anthroposophy as a philosophical basis. The founder of Waldorf pedagogy, Rudolf Steiner, suggested that the curriculum to be used in Waldorf schools around the world should be a spiral curriculum that follows the developmental stages of a child. Waldorf school is based on epochal teaching, and in the student's life it introduces, in addition to basic subjects, special features such as teaching eurythmy, handicrafts and gardening. Upbringing and education at the Waldorf school aims to prepare students for independent and purposeful action and functioning in today's world, as well as to provide knowledge about life and people. According to developmental psychology, the early elementary school years are the time when students accept the authority teachers as given and are then very easy to be influenced and shaped by schools. The Waldorf school curriculum is designed in such a way that the teacher has freedom for using his originality and authenticity and influence students in a way that the teacher himself serves as an example of what is desirable and good. The teaching of the lower grades of the Waldorf school is based on providing basic knowledge and responding to the existential needs of students at a certain developmental stage and creating cohesion within the class community through group learning.
